At The Front Porch on 15th Street in downtown Denver, our Name Night calendar is our claim to fame. Published monthly, each day of the week (except Wednesday) features various first names. The lucky individual to have his or her name selected for the designated date gets to drink for free all night. There are no catches. Just free alcohol.
Here are a few tips on how to make the most of this golden opportunity at one of Denver’s hottest bars:
1. Get on the calendar
This, of course, is the first step. If you want to get your name on our calendar, come in and visit us often during the month prior to the next calendar’s publish date (for example, come in March if you want a chance to be on April’s calendar). Write your name on the chalkboard in the bar. Get to know the bartenders. Become our friend and we will become yours.
How do you know if/when your name gets on our calendar? Like our page on Facebook, friend us, or check our Calendar page on our website to find out.
2. Tell your friends
Once you find out your name is on our calendar, share the good news with all your friends, and invite them to join you. Chances are one of your friends shares your name night. (If not, try not to gloat too much.)
3. Designate a driver
Let’s not mince words. You’re going to drink. A lot. Plan ahead and pick a designated driver. Or put the number to a taxi in your phone ahead of time.
4. Bring your ID
Not only do you need your ID to get in the door (The Front Porch is a 21+ only establishment), you will need it at the bar to prove you are who you say you are. No ID with your name on it, no free drinks.
5. Patch up
Since you know you will be drinking a lot, it might be wise to invest in some Zaca patches before heading out. Haven’t heard of Zaca patches? You need to. They are recovery (a.k.a. “hangover”) patches that you put on before you start drinking and are infused with vitamins and minerals to counteract the dehydrating effects of drinking that can make you have bad mornings. Why not have a feel-great morning instead? Buy some at your local liquor store or order online.
6. Pace yourself
We are open from 5 pm to 2 am. If your name is on our calendar for that day, you drink FREE the entire time we are open. You do the math. Slow and steady wins the race.
7. Have fun
That’s it. Just have fun. Enjoy the opportunity to get free drinks all night without having to flirt with anyone to get them!
8. Check the following month’s calendar to see if you can do it all over again!

This is a great video celebrating the amazing city of Denver, for locals and visitors alike. It makes you want to get out there! And after you get out there, come have a drink at the Front Porch, one of the best bars in Denver.
One Yelper recently gave The Front Porch this review: ”Drinks were fairly priced and good; no watered down drinks here! I’m not much of a partier these days, but this is one of my favorite places to get my drink on and watch (not mingle with) the Lodo crowd.” – Randi F., Denver, CO
Thanks, Randi. See you all tonight!

The premise at The Front Porch for Flip Night is simple: Flip a coin and if you call it, all your drinks are free. No limit. It’s always super dark there, but it’s always packed, says photographer Aaron Thackeray for Westword.
* If you’ve got the right name, that is!
This week we’re calling for Tim, Grace, Gina, Emery, Julie, Daniel, Brent, Kim, Ryan, Sam, Lindsey, Martha, Adam, Sonia, and Katie!
If your name is on that list, check our calendar for your day and join us for free drinks! It’s almost like your birthday or something!

Come on out tonight to The Front Porch in LoDo for Flip Night. We flip a coin, you call it, and if you call it correctly, your round is on us! Can’t get much better than that. Be prepared, though, Wednesday nights get a little crazy at The Front Porch. Tonight there will be a video shoot happening at our bar in addition to the usual festivities of Flip Night, so come join us for the fun. We know you love to drink for free, Denver!

Stay classy Front Porch. By the crew ever-present outside the door getting their nicotine fix, I figured I would be walking in to a typical dive bar. Candles everywhere, a large communal table, and tree trunks jutting out of one wall let you get your Charlie Sheen on while still feeling more like George Clooney.
Wednesday night is flip night. Order your drinks. The bartender spins a quarter. You call heads or tails, and the bartender slaps the quarter down on the bar. Get it right and you walk away in blissful victory with whatever you ordered. Get it wrong and pay the reasonable price for your drinks. Please, please, please do not forget to tip the bartender. I saw a lot of rude and inconsiderate people just walk away from the bar with their winnings.
It’s fun to watch everyone grow more bold as the night goes on. At the beginning of the night I won two PBRs and we ended the night when my buddy lost buying a round of Patron for the five of us. I had extremely low expectations for this place, but The Front Porch turned out to be the coziest, classiest little dive bar around. See you next Wednesday.
Best Place to Flip Out – 2008
The Front Porch has totally flipped! For starters, the bar hosts Flip Cup tournaments on the first Tuesday of each month. For those who’ve never played — or for those who’ve played but were too drunk to remember the specifics — Flip Cup involves two teams of up to five players; the first team to slam their beers and flip their cups over by gently tapping the bottom of the cup wins. But really, everyone wins, because everyone gets inebriated! If Flip Cup’s not your thing, try Flip Night on Wednesdays: Flip a coin, and if you guess the toss correctly, your drink is free. Or maybe you’re not the flipping kind. In that case, you can take advantage of the Front Porch’s Hello My Name Is drink specials. It’s simple: If your name is on the calendar, you drink free all night long. Rejoice, all ye Toms, Sarahs, Daves, Amandas and Jasons — and woe to those whose hippie parents named them something weird.

What’s in a name? Free drinks

Usually name alone is not enough to garner free drinks, unless it carries an appellation such as “Lord,” “Baron” or “Owner.” Not so at The Front Porch, where every month a calendar designates each day to a specific name, entitling the bearer to the royal treatment all night (that means open bar, genius). There are no televisions at this bar making the art of conversation a highly desired skill (a witty anecdote might just reward you with more than just a laugh.) Despite still being a bar in its relative infancy, with creative marketing tactics and a regular crowd, The Front Porch has managed to entrench itself firmly into the LoDo bar scene.
Drinks: The intent with The Front Porch was to create a drinking venue for those wishing to sip a martini or knock back a beer. There’s nothing on tap, but the fridges behind the bar stock a healthy selection of big name beers, Mexican cerveza and local micro-brews. The bottles-only policy adds to the urbane veneer, but also serves a more utilitarian function in ensuring the sometimes-fermented clientele won’t be spilling pints on other patrons.
Décor: Though called The Front Porch, “subterranean lounge” might be more apropos. Sunken below street level, the establishment is a bar/lounge hybrid with couches, earthy tones and softly flickering candles. There is a palpable Southern Gothic aura, which manifests itself though the shadowy lighting and the over sized pictures of cotton plants and plantation houses that adorn the walls. Don’t worry though, it’s purely postbellum.
Crowd: When the bar opens at around 5 p.m. during the week, the crowd usually consists of professionals looking to grab their post-work respite. On the first Tuesday of each month, a flip cup tournament brings in a younger crowd looking to prove their aptitude for alcohol infused games. Wednesdays can get crowded and rowdy as flip night ensures everyone has a fifty-fifty shot of getting each drink for free. The weekends see a young, attractive crowd looking to mingle and maybe more…
Sounds: Music plays a central roll in contributing to the chill vibe at The Front Porch. No grating top 40 or blinged-out hip-hop, just mellow beats from reggae and jam bands. On their website, there’s a photo page dedicated to Widespread Panic so you’ve got your Southern rock, but they do interweave some Phish into the play list, though it tends to be more Farmhouse than A Picture of Nectar. In the song “Paul and Silas,” former Phish frontman Trey Anastasio wonders if someone is a “prep school hippie” or a “hip school preppie,” never fully discerning the difference. Chances are you’ll be introduced to both at the Porch.
Insider tips: Add your name to the chalkboard to the left of the bar when you first visit. Then check the back page of The Onion to see the calendar and if your moniker has made the cut. Then drink and repeat. Also, get your best four to five person flip cup team together on Wednesdays for a chance to win free swag.
Service: The bar staff is extremely affable. Don’t be surprised if they help introduce you to some new companions.
