20 Mustaches that Molded History: Part III

It’s Friday and time to meet the next five members of the mustache mafia who molded history. Drum roll…

10 – TOM SELLECK

In the 1980s, nobody symbolized Male sexuality like Mr. Tom Selleck and his wonderful mustache. Thick, bushy, and cared for with only the finest tropical salves and oils, Selleck’s mustache was the stuff of legends. From his hit TV series Magnum P.I. to the movies, Tom Selleck rode his mustache to the heights of fame. If ever there was a man who could teach the world to sing in peace and harmony with his facial hair, it was Tom Selleck.

You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink. Fortunately for Tom Selleck, he has no need for horses, or water for that matter, because his Ferarri runs on testosterone.

Popular belief states every motion picture can be improved by Tom Selleck’s mustache. You be the judge.

9 – ALEX TREBEK

The biggest change to ‘Jeopardy in the last’ 28 years was the sudden absence of Alex’s mustache a dozen years ago. Where did it go? Rumors have surfaced it went on to star in several motion pictures. Mostly foreign films, however it did garner an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor in a drama category.

8 – DR. FU MANCHU

Imagine a person, tall, lean and feline, high-shouldered, with a brow like Shakespeare and a face like Satan, one giant intellect, with all the resources of science past and present … Imagine that awful being, and you have a mental picture of Dr. Fu-Manchu, the yellow peril incarnate in one man. – The Insidious Dr. Fu Manchu

The fu manchu was absent in the book but was added when Fu Manchu in film. The mustache was such a hit that Fu Manchu’s name became the official name for the style–A “fu manchu” is a full mustache that extends downward past the mouth and on either side of the chin. Often, the ends of the mustache will hang past the jaw line with pointed or tapered ends.

7 – CHARLIE CHAPLIN

This toothbursh mustache is most famous for having been worn by Adolf Hitler, although it was already well-recognized due to movie star Charlie Chaplin wearing it as part of his Little Tramp costume. Chaplin did not wear the mustache in daily life. Chaplin said he added the mustache to his costume because it had a comical appearance and was small enough so as not to hide his expression. Chaplin took advantage of the noted similarity between his on-screen appearance and that of Adolf Hitler in his film The Great Dictator, where he again wore the mustache as part of two new characters that parodied Hitler. – Wikipedia

6 – ADOLPH HITLER

I can’t think of any other list that you would find both Tom Selleck and Adolf Hitler to be members of. Is it any wonder the “Hitler” mustache went out of style about the same time Hitler went of style? As one man, he had the power to throw the world into war…and forever end the fashion statement of the “toothbrush” mustache.
